The IT industry is facing a challenging
resource scenario for sometime. This industry needs
skilled entry level workforce but is unable to get because
a large gap exists between skills required
and skills possessed by fresh graduates.
This gap cannot be filled by academia as it requires industry
knowledge. World bank has noted in its study that there is
shortage of skilled faculty for providing relevant
industry oriented training. Campus2Job, a uniquely
designed program conducted by skilled industry
professionals is an ideal answer to these challenges.

Current IT resource
scenario - The Gap |
| |
A Nasscom-McKinsey
report predicted a shortfall of 500,000
knowledge workers by 2010, mainly due to
lack of suitable talent |
| |
Infosys has said
that it found only 2% of the 1.3 million job applicants
it reviewed last year acceptable, i.e. 1.274
million applicants without jobs |

As per a World
Bank Study Indian IT Industry would face challenges
because of
-
Inability
of the IT services and ITES-BPO industries
to maintain and share common infrastructure
facilities across institutions
-
Shortage
of skilled faculty for providing relevant,
industry-oriented training
-
Inadequate
industry exposure
-
Increasing discrepancy
between the education focus and the quality
of skills developed at top-tier educational
institutions and other private and public
centers of learning
-
Lack of correlation
and synchronization between the existing technical
education system and industry requirements-absence
of adequate academia-industry linkages
-
Rigidities
in the curriculum and evaluation system

Challenges |
| |
The current
resource scenario in IT industry has posed challenges
for Industry as well as for candidates.
The industry needs skills according to their business
needs, but graduates from our education system
do not have applied knowledge to measure up to
that. They also do not know how to upgrade their
skills to the required level. With rapidly changing
technology scenario in business, the challenge
is only widening. |
 |
Challenges faced
by Industry |
| |
|
| |
- A large gap exists
between fresher’s skills and skills needed
by IT industry. Unskilled fresh graduates
end up dragging the project rather than delivering
it on time and within budgets.
|
| |
|
| |
- Most of IT companies find training
fresh graduates an uphill task
|
| |
- With increasing attrition rates,
training fresh graduates become a losing
cause for many companies
|
 |
Challenges faced
by Candidates |
| |
|
| |
- On an average only the top 25% percentile
get a job through campus placements.
This leaves 3 out of 4 engineering
graduates without job when they
leave campus.

|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
-
They do not get guidance
to approach their career from there on. They
wait for walk-ins and try their luck. If 6
or 7 months passes, it is very difficult for
them to get any job because neither have they
upgraded their skills nor have they gained
any relevant experience. If unfortunately
a year goes by they have their juniors competing
with them and from thereon it becomes a steep
uphill task
